WISH AT 11:11
During summer 2021, I became extremely interested in my film camera again. Usually in relation to my film camera I often took it out to social events with my friends and shot them without much thought beind what I was taking. However, after being out of university for several months, I wanted to continue my practice and explore and eperiment with different compostions. From this I decided to make a Zine. I'd gathered lots of inspiration from the work of Ewen Spencer, Corinne day and Andrew Miskys. Their work is heavily surrounded by youth culture and subcultures. This is a theme I've always been interested in throughout my practice, I like relating my work to my every day and including the important people in my life also. I began taking my film camera with me everywhere, shooting everything I did with the people closest to me.
I had a few ideas in relation to the main theme - I wanted to create a sort of diary/safe space for people to write their thoughts and feelings regarding their life as a teenager. I wanted to create a body of work which reached everyone surrounding my age bracket, something that would touch everyone involved including myself. I documented everything I did. I got a lot out of this project, as it allowed me to become closer to a lot of people that responded, many people who I wasn’t necessarily close with, opened to me about very personal issues and worries. I respected their privacy and paraphased with the added text I layered over the images. The project helped me to experiment with photoshop properly for the first time, as I was using phyical objects I scanned as well as the digitial scans I had developed to create the entire project. I had the Zine printed, creating 50 copies.
