UP THE ARKSEY'S

'UP THE ARKSEY'S' is an exhibited project exploring themes of isolation and loneliness in a subject who has lived alone for 50 years. The project exposes a 90 year old Dad, Grandad, Ex husband, Ex soldier who has lived in the same flat for the majority of his life. This project is very personal to me, he is my grandad in question. Norman Arksey is a man who lives a very simple life today, but has lived many lives throughout his years. This project explores these years, his whole life in no.13 Muswell Court, Hull. The aim of this project was to document this, the traces of day to day life. Norman's shoes, his Magnets on the fridge, his used tea bags on the kitchen counter. It is all about the memories left behind, of him, the people who have walked in and out of his life and the people who have stuck around in between. This project was exhibited in Islington Mill from May 9 - 11 2022.

The exhibition consisted of the collaboration between 10 photography students studying in Manchester Metropolitan University.

The Project itself was an instillation/ replica of Norman's flat in Hull. It was a recreation of a living room including familiar memorabilia of my Grandad. An old school couch with fringe and a battered armchair, a record player, playing 12" Frank Sinatra, a crackling tv unit a pint can of Stella and a clothes rail presenting his wardrobe and smart shoes. FINISHING OFF WITH A PHOTOWALL, ALL IMAGES TAKEN FROM THE FLAT AND A PORTRAIT IN THE CENTRE OF NORMAN.
